Ethicist speaks on end-of-life decisions

A nationally recognized healthcare ethicist will discuss ethical challenges in making health care decisions for the elderly on Nov. 1 at Hospice of the Valley, 9435 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria.

Carol Taylor, a senior research scholar at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University and a professor of nursing, will talk about advance care planning; comfort and pain; life-sustaining interventions; and when to transition to comfort care. The title of her presentation is “Health Care Decision-Making for the Elderly.”

Registration begins at 11 a.m., with the program running from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 1. Registration is required by Oct. 29: (602) 636-5392 or email events7@hov.org.

Lunch will be provided at this no-cost event, which is open to community members and healthcare professionals. The presentation carries 1.5 CNE credit and NCIAB credit for continuing education.
